There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!

School Spotlight: Saint Louis University
St. Louis, MO

Ten minutes from downtown St. Louis and the Gateway Arch, you’ll find Saint Louis University, a Jesuit, Catholic research university with outstanding programs in everything from aviation and engineering to health sciences and nursing. Community service is a vital part of most students’ lives at SLU. Every semester between 80-100 service learning courses are offered, and the entire SLU community volunteers close to two million hours each year. Between the SLU Dance Marathon (taking place each fall) and the annual Relay for Life event (which is attempting to raise $150,000 this year), students at SLU are committed to supporting the common good. Approximately 64 percent of SLU’s 8,000 undergrads hail from out-of-state, with programs in nursing, physical therapy, and biology attracting the largest number of students. Although study abroad opportunities are prevalent at most U.S. colleges, how many schools boast a branch campus in one of Europe’s liveliest and most cosmopolitan cities? At SLU Madrid, students from the St. Louis campus can spend a semester living with a host family and choose among hundreds of academic courses, including History of Spanish Art, International Business, and The European Union: Politics and Political Economy.
