7 Tips for Finding MBA Scholarships

scholarship search

It is not uncommon for high school seniors to launch an extensive private scholarship search to help fund their education. Unfortunately, however, senior year tends to be both the first and last time many students look for scholarships. Alternatively, we recommend continuing the scholarship search process throughout your college years, and, if graduate school is in your future, for your graduate education as well. College finance expert and former Babson College financial aid officer, Michelle Clifton, outlines her best tips for MBA students to track down scholarships in her latest article on the Fortuna Admissions blog. How Parents Can Help, or Hurt, Their Child’s MBA Admissions Prospects

mba admissions

Guest Post By Matt Symonds, Fortuna Admissions

A college friend once confided that her dad – at his emphatic insistence – wrote all of her undergrad admission essays. Given that she was a physics major with near-perfect grades at a top 10 undergrad institution, this parental intervention struck me as irrational (not to mention unethical).  Given the news we’ve all heard this week about parental overstepping to a criminal extent, I guess I shouldn’t have been shocked by my friend’s confession.

From rescuing to over-praising, we’ve been warned of the perils of helicopter parenting and its implications for children. Yet when a child expresses their intent to apply to a top business school, there’s plenty you can do to help without overstepping your bounds. Continue reading

But what if an MBA didn’t require such an up-front investment? What if you could get a scholarship to cover some or all of your MBA program? Continue reading

Guest Post By Judith Silverman Hodara, Fortuna Admissions

A few months ago, my Fortuna Admissions colleague interviewed an MBA graduate named Paul Heslop, who serves as an Operations and Planning Chief for the United Nations. Among Paul’s bevy of unique distinctions is directing peacekeeping efforts in 17 countries, clearing thousands of unexploded mines and bombs, and defending multi-million dollar budgets to the UN Security Council. Oh, and before pursuing the MBA at London Business School, Paul had the distinctive privilege of accompanying the late Princess Diana through an active minefield on her trip to Angola. Applying to Harvard Business School 2+2 and Other Deferred Admissions MBA Programs

mba graduate

Guest Post by Kristen Beyers, Fortuna Admissions

She exuded a sense of urgency, this college senior seeking my counsel on applying to Stanford Graduate School of Business’ deferred admissions program. She had done her research around women’s social entrepreneurship in the global economy, understood her unique value proposition, and was compelled in pursuit of this passion and singularly focused on having an impact now. She was clear why the MBA was essential to accelerating her ambitions—from GSB specifically—and she didn’t want to wait the expected five-plus years to realize her professional dream. This client also happened to be an academic rock star with impressive leadership exploits. Continue reading
